Kuala Lumpur, 19 October 2011- Volkswagen Group Malaysia launched the highly-anticipated and popular sedan, the Jetta today.

The Jetta has it all. The combination of an award-winning engine and gearbox results in impressive power that is also economical.

The sedan from Volkswagen truly exceeds expectation with class leading interior space and safety features.

Volkswagen Group Malaysia managing director Mr Ricky Tay said the Jetta is part of Volkswagen’s sedan range for the Malaysian market, and an extension of offering Malaysians the true experience of ‘Das Auto’ or The Car.

“It is produced using reliable and durable German engineering, with innovations specific to the brand and is environmentally-friendly. Furthermore, the Jetta is equipped with an efficient and engine and gearbox, that is difficult to emulate,” he said.

Engine and Performance

The 1.4 TSI twin-charged engine produces 160PS at 5,800rpm and is mated to a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). This specification places the Jetta as the most powerful sedan in its category.

Superior torque of 240Nm is available between 1,500rpm and 4,500rpm. Thus, the Jetta is capable of hitting a top speed of 221kph, returning an impressive fuel consumption of 6.0 litres/100 km.

The Jetta is environmental-friendly too, emitting 139g/km of CO2.

Exterior

The Jetta’s compelling combination of style, elegance and sportiness gives it a distinctive appearance.

The car’s features have been carefully selected for Malaysians and is equipped with Volkswagen’s Climatronic air-conditioning system, MEDIA-IN with USB/iPod/Aux interface wired to a RCD310 audio system, Park Distance Control (PDC) for the front and rear, cruise control and seats covered in ‘Sienna’ fabric.

Additionally, the Jetta comes with a leather-wrapped, multi-function steering wheel and hand brake lever, to complete the car’s premium feel.

For convenience, the car has 3 rear headrests, auto-dimming interior mirror, ‘Black Pyramid’ decorative inserts for dashboard and doors, height and reach adjustable steering wheel, multi-function display ‘Plus’ and split folding rear backrest with centre armrest.

For those wanting the extra space, the Jetta provides a boot space of 510 litres, enough for most driving trips in Malaysia.

Never before has a Jetta been this sporty, this efficient or this large. Conceptually and stylistically, the saloon takes a giant leap forward.

As mentioned, the saloon’s design is no longer derived from that of the Golf, rather it follows separate lines.

Designers and engineers also completely recreated the car. Thanks to the long wheelbase (2.65 metres) that was extended along with the car’s overall length, the rear seating area has gained significant length (an additional 6.7 cm of legroom).

Safety

In its driving properties, the Jetta is also one of the safest automobiles in the world. The Jetta is another award-winning product from Volkswagen that boasts the 5-star Euro-NCAP safety rating and comes as standard with a Traction Control System, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), electronically-controlled ABS and EBD, complemented by brake assist and 6 airbags.

These features are further enhanced with seat anchors for the ISOFIX child seat system, collapsible safety steering column, Hill hold control, speed sensitive power assisted steering and the rain sensor.

The class leading Jetta additionally is equipped with five crash-optimised head restraints (with special anti-whiplash design in front), daytime running lights, automatic seatbelt detection system, automatic hazard lights on hard braking, and ESP with counter-steering feature and trailer stabilisation.

Comfort

The running gear tuning is as safe as it is comfortable and dynamic. A MacPherson strut-type front suspension with coil springs and telescoping shock absorbers is used in the Jetta.

At the rear, a multi-link system is at work with independent wheel suspension, gas dampers and separate springs. Anti-roll bars on the front and rear running gear optimise handling properties. The Jetta’s smooth yet precise electro-mechanical power steering also has a positive effect on the car’s comfort, performance and active safety.

The Jetta will be available in several colours that include Candy White, Tornado Red, Silver Leaf, Platinum Grey, Reflex Silver, Tempest Blue, Toffee Brown and Deep Black.
