Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday– One of Volkswagen’s most successful and advanced models, The Passat, was launched in the Malaysian market here today.
Everything about the Passat is designed to be advanced. It comes with an award-winning TSI engine mated to a DSG.

Volkswagen Group Malaysia managing director Mr Ricky Tay said the Passat has always mirrored the course of technological progress at Volkswagen.
“Into its seventh generation since 1973, the styling of the bestseller has been completely re-interpreted, and its front end shows parallels to the Phaeton and is more impressive than ever.
“This is our way of offering Malaysians class-leading products at affordable prices. In a nutshell, this is Das Auto, or The Car, as we at Volkswagen see it,” he added.
He added that the Passat would be a perfect choice for Malaysians wanting to lead with advanced comfort.
“At Volkswagen, we believe in smaller displacements with more power, torque and fuel economy. The Passat truly portrays this philosophy,” added Mr Tay.
Engine and Performance
The Passat is equipped with 1.8l turbocharged direct petrol injection 4-cylinder engine that generates 160PS. A torque of 250Nm kicks in from 1,500rpm, displaying just how efficient the car is.
The 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) plays a crucial role in ensuring the performance figures of the Passat. This large sized sedan can accelerate to 100kph in 8.5 seconds, capable of hitting a top speed of 220kph.
A combination of all these innovations lead the Passat to claim the class leading stature in fuel economy, with its fuel tank returning 7.0 litres/100km on the combined cycle.
Exterior
The Passat truly encompasses the Volkswagen design DNA. The car has a gorgeous design lines truly brings out the essence of this large sedan.
The 17-inch ‘Minneapolis’ wheels is complemented by the automatic headlight activation, ‘Leaving Home’ and manual ‘Coming Home’ function, bi-xenon headlamps for low beam and high beam with integrated LED daytime running lights, dynamic headlight range adjustment with dynamic bending light, electrical exterior mirrors, which can be adjusted and folded, headlamp washer system, automatically heated washer nozzles for the front, rain sensor and tail lamps in LED technology.
Interior
The interior cabin of the Passat is so luxurious that chances are, you won’t feel like stepping out of it.
Inside this executive car, there is a multitude of features and gadgets. At the forefront are Volkswagen’s innovations such as the Climatronic air-conditioning system, comfort start function ‘Press and Drive’, electric seats, MEDIA-IN and AUX-IN with USB adapter cable, connected to a multi-function display ‘Plus’ and RCD 510 touch screen audio system. This audio system plays MP3s and comes with an ensemble of a 6-disc CD changer and 8 speakers.
The 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel is wrapped in leather while the centre console is finished in brushed aluminium decorative inserts.
To ensure a warm effect within the cabin, the Passat comes with the auto-dimming interior rear view mirror and the ‘Iridium’ decorative inserts for the dashboard and doors.
Other driving conveniences include the cruise control, electric parking brake with auto-hold function and hill-hold control, height and reach adjustable steering wheel, park distance control (PDC) with acoustic warning signals for obstacles in the front and rear, a tyre pressure monitoring system, split folding backrests with centre armrest, remote unlocking for the luggage compartment and front centre armrest with storage box.
Rear seat passengers would have 2 air vents and 2 cup holders.
Thus, the interior experience in the Passat would be very premium, especially with the ‘Vienna’ leather seats.
Safety
The Passat is not just a large executive sedan, as it is safe too. The car is equipped with 3-point seat belts for front with height adjustment and seat belt tensioners, 6 airbags, electronic differential lock (EDL), electronic stability control (ESP) including counter steering assistance, electronic vehicle immobilisation device, electronically controlled ABS with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), engine drag torque control (EDTC).
The Passat also boasts a Euro NCAP 5-Star rating for adult occupant protection. Child safety is catered for by the ISOFIX anchorage points (mounting fixture for two child seats on rear seat bench).
The outstanding Passat additionally comes with the innovative Rest Assist drowsiness detection system that alerts the driver when he or she is drowsy, three 3-point seat belts for the rear, a traction control system (TCS) and the trailer roll stability program.
The Passat is available in a range of colour choices from Iron Grey, Cashmere Brown, Night Blue, Reflex Silver, Deep Black, Mocha Anthracite and Iceland Grey.
